Daily Docket: Social Media 34 and Uber 27 Lead MDL Filings

We tracked 142 new filings across 23 litigations. The Social Media Adolescent Addiction Personal Injury Products Liability Litigation (MDL 3047) led with 34 — Frantz Law Group APLC filed 23. Keller Postman LLC filed all 30 in the Zantac (Ranitidine) Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2924). The Uber Passenger Sexual Assault Litigation (MDL 3084) added 27, six through Peiffer Wolf. U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers on Aug. 26 entered a Meta–state attorneys general consent judgment that ended the AG-track trial and reserved private and school-district claims. U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer on Sept. 8 appointed Randi Ellis as Settlement Master; Jane Doe QLF 001 remains set for trial Oct. 5.

LDS Church Removes Garden Grove Bishop Suit

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints removed Abir Cohen Treyzon Salo LLP and The Zalkin Law Firm LLP's The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sex Abuse Litigation from Orange County Superior Court to the Central District of California as Doe v. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2:26-cv-10181. The complaint alleges childhood sexual abuse from about 1991 to 1994 by Delbert Meeks, then bishop of the Garden Grove 6th Ward. Greenberg Gross LLP filed A.N. v. Clark County School District, 2:26-cv-02879 (**D. Nev.**), alleging a junior-high teacher sexually abused a 13-year-old student.

Alston Denies VW Timing-Chain Class Cert

U.S. District Judge Rossie D. Alston, Jr. on Sept. 9 denied class certification in Connelly v. Volkswagen Group of America, 1:19-cv-01487 (E.D. Va.), granted two motions to exclude, returned the 2011–2015 timing-chain case to the active docket, and directed a settlement conference with Magistrate Judge Ivan D. Davis within 30 days.
